Murphy’s Cousin

11.07.11

the modern home - moving day

As you may have gathered (maybe because I said it in the last post) we’re back. Gone 4 months. Phew. Loooong trip! But wonderful to get to spend so much time with both our families.

Boxes are everywhere. We rented a moving truck and FINALLY brought home all of the stuff we’ve been storing at my mom’s house for the past 5 years. Boy does that feel good to have done! Check out the suspenders Ezra found in the back of the moving truck. He wanted to wear them while he helped move boxes. So cute!

Seeing as how we’re back in our house and seeing as how I haven’t been posting about the building process like I said I would be while we were traveling… your super sleuth skills may have deduced that we didn’t sell. Nearly 6 months after the initial offer and 3 closing extensions later, the whole thing fell through. The entire experience was extremely frustrating to say the least. I won’t get into the details here as far as the hows and whys of it falling through, but suffice it to say that Murphy has a cousin. If Murphy’s law is anything that can go wrong will go wrong then his cousin’s law is the most ridiculous outcome is the one that will happen.

So we may or may not be back in limbo now. It depends on what we’re willing to do. Things/plans might be a changin’. Stay tuned!

Paring Progress

06.27.11

A couple of weeks ago I mentioned how ridiculous and excessive I felt having so many clothes when I only wear about 10% of my wardrobe. Well, folks, I’ve outdone myself… in the bathroom. You wouldn’t believe how many personal care and cosmetic items I own! I packed three 18 gallon bins!! What?? Seriously, no one should have that good of hygiene!

I immediately went to work (okay maybe Brad forced me) to pare down my massive collection. In doing so I’ve discovered that I’m apparently obsessive about hair removal. I had two hair removal lotion kits, a waxing kit, a bottle of Nair, two packs of blade cartridge refills for Schick and Gelette in addition to my actual razors, and three separate packs of disposable razors for traveling. And lets not forget the four tweezers. I’m not sure if I expect to be felt up (by Brad preferably) or have to jump into a bikini at a moments notice, but I suppose I’ll be ready and hairless should the occasion present itself.

I also found that I own more lipgloss and lipstick than any one girl should have. I counted 36 (!), but I keep one or two in each of my purses so who knows what the actual number is. Several lipsticks are the same color as though I was worried about being caught somewhere without that ‘certain’ shade and a few of them have ever even been opened! LAME. So I’ve chucked any hue that I didn’t absolutely love and donated the unopened tubes. Then I took my almost-gone-but-not-quite items and melted them down into one brand new color. (I’ve done this before and it’s fun to play around with the colors. Try it some time!)

All in all, I managed to toss out a full garbage bag of cosmetic stuff. So… now I have two bins rather than three.

Hey, it’s progress, people! Progress!

Let’s Go!

06.02.11

After we close on the house on Monday (yay!), we’ll be homeless (not so yay…). Rather than spend the money renting a tiny apartment for just a few months, we’ve decided to take advantage of our new mortgage-less freedom and spend the summer traveling.

If you’ve been following the blog for a while now, you know we haven’t started building yet. (And if you are new to the blog, welcome! You can read here and here to get yourself all caught up.) We’re hoping to start construction on the new house late summer / early fall. Over the next few months, we’ll be modifying our plans and engineering, applying for our variances and permits, finalizing bids, and closing on the construction loan. Should be an interesting experience doing all this on the road.

What I really meant was…

03.15.11

So when I said happy weekend what I really meant was happy weekend see you in a few weeks. So what have I been up to? Trying to keep my head above water! I’ve been up ’til the wee hours of the morning so many nights I lost count. Lots of design projects with lots of tight deadlines. But we’ve had some fun times thrown into the mix. (Thank goodness or I would’ve lost my dern mind!) Here are a few highlights:

All you can eat BBQ and a muscle car show? Sounds like a perfect weekend!

We were so stuffed we couldn’t even make it around to all the vendors. Black Jack BBQ was by far the best! I think I’m a little biased, though, because they cooked it Tennessee style. It was just like Cherry’s (I think Cherry sold to Whitts, but it’s still good) or Hog Heaven’s bbq. YUMMO!

The brighter the color the better. I love the yellow and green!

Yes, please!

This might be the perfect car for our little family – room for car seats, Kenzie, and surfboards!

Well, gotta get back to work so I’ll post the rest of my update latter. Peace out! (Yes, I’m in a goofy mood…)

He’s 3!

02.01.11

My little Ezra turns three today! I can’t believe how fast the time has gone!

On the agenda:

- Make a train cake (wish me luck!)
- Have lunch at the firehouse (a sub place)
- Go to the park
- Cake, ice cream, and presents.

Birthdays are great!
