Memphis's 2nd birthday

Memphis's 2nd Birthday

“I go! Look, Mommy, I go!”

Memphis's 2nd birthday

We celebrated Memphis’s 2nd birthday last week with a glow in the dark party. Hopefully it made up for last years cake blobs ball failure. I ordered a black light for one of his gifts (for sensory play) and decided to make a theme out of it. Not as much glowed as I had hoped (like the cake or my striped shirt which magically showed 100% of my bra), but the boys still thought it was the coolest thing EVER.

P.S. I don’t apologize for the one million pics. I’m his mother. Indulge me.

P.P.S. I left the black light on the whole time so the pictures with the lights on had this funky cross processed look to them (hence the black and white).

Memphis's birthday

Crossing his fingers that the cake makes it all the way to his mouth.

Mmm… that was good. I need a bigger piece.

I love that sweet little face of his. This boy makes me so happy.

Here is a time-lapse video for the Grands to enjoy of him blowing out his candles. I would have done an animated gif, but there were like 20 something pictures and the file was humongous. Press play and bask in the cuteness.

Christmas Recap

01.03.13

It’s not too late for a Christmas recap is it? Not in my world!

Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012 included lots of food, games, toys, and late nights. I think Christmas is way more fun with kids. We were as excited for them to open their presents as they were! :)

Christmas 2012

James – apparently the only toy we needed to get Memphis. He’s obsessed!

Christmas 2012

Christmas 2012

The boys love playing the piano with Grandma and Grandpa. Someday we’ll get one of our own, boys. I promise!

Christmas 2012

Traditional gingerbread house building contest.

Christmas 2012

I built a teepee. It was awesome.

Christmas 2012

Kenzie approved.

Christmas 2012

Memphis was out of control at Christmas dinner so I held him in a headlock until he passed out. Kidding! Christmas just had too much excitement for one little boy – he was out before the gravy boat made it’s way over to us.

It was a very merry Christmas! We were sad that we had to cut the trip short for a work emergency. One of the joys of being self-employed I guess. I missed out on visiting with all my TN friends. Do any of you girls even read this blog any more? [cricket... cricket...] No? Well, regardless, I feel like I haven’t seen ya’ll in ages. Miss you :(

Modern Christmas Advent

Modern Christmas Advent

I seem to change my mind with Christmas decor every year. This year it’s black and white. I found this free DIY advent download at HEY LOOK. It’s total eye candy for the graphic designer in me. They’re pretty to look at, but I’m going to place these in the FAIL category for Young Family advent calendars. Even with Brad’s help it took FOR.EV.ER to put the boxes together and they won’t be usable next year. (Thanks, Memphis.) I literally turned my back for two seconds and he managed to eat 4 pieces and was working on his fifth. They live on the fridge for now, but I found him pushing a kitchen chair over to the counter earlier so I think I’ll be hiding them elsewhere  tonight. Boy loves him some candy.

Thanksgiving

11.30.12

Timely and on topic. That’s me!

Thanksgiving 2012

Thanksgiving 2012

Thanksgiving 2012

For FHE the week of Thanksgiving we taught the lesson on recognizing our blessings and showing our gratitude for them. Lately I’ve been trying to get the boys into crafting so… we made gratitude turkeys!

Don’t be jealous of our mad crafting skills.

Ezra cut out the feathers himself (with kid-safe scissors – don’t freak out) and wrote the majority of his blessings himself with the exception of Grandma and video games (next weeks lesson is on priorities… jk). He ran out of room with Kenzie, so the i and e are on top. I thought it was sweet that he listed David as one of his blessings – even before Christina. He has always loved David so much and considers him family. We do, too. I’m also amazed/shocked/happy that Memphis made the list. Day to day whining, pushing, and toy stealing might lead one to believe otherwise.

As far as Thanksgiving Day itself I have two words for you: crockpot turkey. Life changing. It was Brad’s idea and I’ll never go back. Ideas like that are why I married that man. Brilliant.

The Sandbox Truck Show

sandbox truck show - the modern home blog

We were lured out of our hermit house recently with the promise of a real life monster truck. BIG FAT FIB. No such truck was on the premises. Sure there were firetrucks and ambulances and army trucks and big rigs and just about any other truck that would impress a 4 year old and a 1 year old, but the promised monster truck was nowhere to be found. I’m surprised Ezra didn’t demand to speak with a manager. We tried getting Memphis in a truck – any truck – but he wouldn’t have it. The whole outing lasted about 10 minutes before the siren (intended to impress) frightened the timids resulting a speedy exit.

We tried.
